SCHS Surf Team Claims Sixth Straight NSSA State Championship

The San Clemente High Surf Team captured its sixth state title this past weekend at the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s Interscholastic Surfing Championships.

The Tritons were led by sophomore Connor Dand, who claimed his first major title in the High School Varsity Mens division. Contributors to the team’s win included Kei Kobayashi, who placed second in Varsity Mens, Andy Nieblas, who placed second in Varsity Longboard, and Malia Osterkamp, who placed second in Women’s Varsity.

Among the champions were several Orange County schools and surfers. Huntington Beach High grad, Jack Boyes, claimed the college men’s title, Christian Wilerth, Edison High surfer, placed first in the JV Longboard division.
