Local Diver to Compete in World Junior Championship

Camryn Hidalgo, a diminutive 13-year-old diver from Mission Viejo, is making a big splash in the world of competitive diving. Next week, she’ll take on her biggest stage yet during the FINA World Junior Championships in Adelaide, Australia.

Hidalgo qualified by placing first in the 1-meter event during the 2012 Junior National Diving Championships in August. She also placed second in the platform competition.

Locally, Hidalgo trains with the recently vandalized Mission Viejo Diving Club. In 2010, Hidalgo was selected to join the Junior Elite Performance Squad (JEPS), which aims to train the best divers in the United States for eventual Olympic competition.

The FINA World Junior Championships runs Oct. 8-13. Check back afterward for Hidalgo’s results.
